Found in all US states with the exception of Hawaii, Florida, North Carolina, and South Dakota
Because Redtop germinates quickly, it is often used for erosion control and in pastures. It is a rhizomatous perennial grass. The 3/8-inch leaves are narrow and sharp. Its slender stems grow to 30-40 inches. The flower head is pyramid-shaped and reddish in color. There are close to 5 million seeds per pound.
